Hey, I could use some help

Any suggestions for sounds that could be associated with rage?

I'm doing an installation that, fore the time being at least, I've labelled "Rage". Basically it's my way of venting my frustration over having to take this course, lol.

Anyway, it involves sounds of anger, and I've already recorded sounds of breaking glass and clanging kitchenware, as well as screaming (mine and [info]tuinen's) and a series of more or less anxious sounds produced on a syhthesizer (and occasionally accomppanied by more screaming, lol). Problem is, the ideal situation would be to have at least an hour's worth of sounds (preferrably longer), and I can only scream so many times before I go hoarse. I guess I could always record some crocodile tears - I can actually be pretty convincing - to include the more fragile side of anger or something. I don't know.

Incidentally, for the video part, suggestions of violent actions executable by a single person (and that don't involve actually hurting anyone) are also welcome.

Hit something with your fists, that would make a thumping sound! Also smacking people around with slappy noises. (Are you allowed to have speech in it or just.. noises? You could grunt furiously or something, haha 8I) Too bad punching pillows dont make much sound, that's what I do when I'm angry.

..hour's worth of sound still sounds a lot of work. 8( Frustrated crying sounds good though.

And as for the video. Ho hum. Smashing walls and pillows, again? Try to get some junk you're allowed to break and throw it around in a sturdy room. Also scream and rip your hair and crawl on the ground in DESPAIR. Just imagine that you're fucking pissed at something, that should do it? 8D;

I don't think speech is forbidden. I'll have to come up with some incoherent babbling of anger, haha. And thumping sounds seem like a good idea.

And the video part suggestions sound REALLY DAMN GOOD. Thanks!

Oooh, sounds like an interesting project.

Car horns are a good expression of anger I think, haha. Maybe any noise that starts out really soft and gradually builds up? Like thundering or rumbling sounds? ...Fabric being torn, angry winds? EXPLOSIONS! ...

I'm not sure if editting actual existing footage is plausible but I'm sure there's tons of destructive stuff on youtube if that's okay. Lots of red will do the trick if not, just for symbolism or something? :9

Yes, building up noises will probably work, as will car horns.

Unfortunately, editing existing footage isn't really an option, as we've been told to only use material we either own the rights to or is in the public domain. But the usage of red is a valid idea. I've actually been thinking of including a red lightsource in the space.

Don't know how easy these would be to find and record, but what about squaky and/or mechanic sounds.
Like...the ones a train makes while stopping, that sort of metallic screechy sound I think I recall hearing sometimes... Althought I'm not sure I personally assosiate that with anger, it might work with other "angry" noises?
Oh, and how about scraping a blackboard?

Violent actions...
tearing things, like paper, and throwing the pieces away. Or sweeping things from a table.

Hm, well, there's always the garage for metallic sounds. And scraping a blackboard is an option I'm considering, if I can locate one (our school seems to mostly use whiteboards).

An hour's worth of sounds? Good luck with that... I tend to be more passive-aggressive than raging openly so I associate anger with speaking sharply. Not necessarily loudly but the kind of voice that's really snappy and cutting. You can be perfectly polite while sounding that you want to kill something, preferably the person you're talking to.

And sharp footsteps, too, like your trying to puch your heels through the floor. Your doing it correctly if your family tries to hide when they hear you coming heels actually hurt when they hit the ground. *g* Same with other actions: you don't need to break anything, just wrench doors open, slam something on a table etc.

Thanks for the suggestions. Sharp footsteps work very nicely for this. I ended up multiplying the sounds I recorded (which ended up as about 2 mins worth of usable material) to fill an hour on the tape.
